I like much of street art a lot. I live near Philadelphia, which has a quasi-governmental agency that has funded and directed the creation of two thousand or more outdoor murals. Those murals are, in a way, a pretty big part of Philadelphia’s environment.
It’s become a big thing in a lot of cities, especially in neighborhoods that need some love. The man who took me to the temples said the locals don’t care about the murals — only the tourists do. But I wonder about that. Many of those murals were not painted for tourists. They represent Javanese culture and politics in ways that most tourists could not appreciate.
What a great discovery, Yogyakarta!
Thanks for sharing!!
